The Palazzo

About Foresteria Bandini

A nobel legacy of power, art and mystery

Palazzo Bandini owes its origins to war, ambition, and the shifting alliances of Renaissance Italy. During one of the many conflicts between Italy’s city-states, Città della Pieve—then allied with Siena—found itself at war with neighboring Orvieto.
To lead its forces, the city enlisted a Florentine mercenary captain named Vanni Bandini.
Victorious, Vanni was rewarded with a private fief and the right to build a noble residence in the heart of the city. Thus began the legacy of Palazzo Bandini. A century later, it was the captain’s descendant, Countess Francesca Vitelli, who reimagined the residence.
She commissioned architect Galeazzo Alessi, known for shaping much of Renaissance Umbria, to transform the medieval palazzo into a defining example of classical harmony. Palazzo Bandini is today recognized as Città della Pieve’s first true expression of Renaissance architecture.

RESTORATION AND REBIRTH

Eight Suites, Countless Stories

Every stone, fresco, and timber beam at Palazzo Bandini has been brought back to life with reverence and restraint. After a decade-long restoration, the palazzo now welcomes guests into eight distinct suites. Sleeping up to 18 guests, the residence blends antique soul with contemporary sensibility. From original terracotta tiles and hand-painted ceilings to bespoke furnishings and discreet modern amenities, every detail has been considered with care.

Palazzo Bandini

A Private Renaissance Retreat with Spa, History, Heart

Hidden among the red-brick buildings of Città della Pieve, just on the side of the town’s majestic Duomo, stands Palazzo Bandini — a residence of rare beauty and deep heritage.

Built in the 14th Century over medieval foundations, the palazzo was the noble home of the Bandini family, whose lineage was woven into the politics and culture of Tuscany and Umbria.

Foresteria Bandini offers flexible accommodation options for smaller groups or independent stays.

The Palazzo is divided into beautifully appointed units, each with its own unique charm:

  • Donna Lucrezia  suite – A charming 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom suite on the first floor.
  • The Rinaldi Guest room – A spacious double bedroom with a private bathroom on the first floor.
  • The Focolare home – On the ground floor, featuring a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and a private patio perfect for al fresco dining.
